Guidelines for Safe Use of the Far Infrared Sauna

Attire: Wear loose-fitting cotton shorts or bathing suit.

Food: It is best to use the sauna on an empty stomach, but avoid being overly hungry or having low blood sugar upon entering. If more than 3 hours have gone since your last meal, it is advisable to eat a small snack 45-minutes to one hour before using the sauna.

Water: On days you are using the sauna, be sure to drink plenty of water. Drink a full 8 oz. glass of water before entering the sauna. Drink 16-20 oz. of water while in sauna. Drink an additional 8 oz. of water within the first half hour after exiting the sauna and continue to drink plenty of water several hours after your sauna session. The water helps the body remove waste products as well as rehydrate. Daily water intake should be ½ your body weight in ounces every day.

Towels: You will need to bring the following towels with you to use:

Required: 1 large bath or beach towel to place on the seat of the sauna

This is a guideline as some people like additional or a different mix of towels. Be aware that we all want the sauna clean and hygienic, so please be conscientious about putting towels down as needed. We will provide 2 small wipe down towels.

What to expect: Some individuals may not feel any effects during the first few sessions. You may not start perspiring for several sessions. If you feel ANY symptoms or side effects, REPORT them immediately. You may be overdoing it. Too rapid detoxification is not healthy. Negative symptoms are not limited to but may include feeling lousy, weak, dizzy, nauseated, exhausted, muscle cramps, spasms, cardiac arrhythmia, head-ache.

As you are in the sauna: Wipe off excess sweat with a hand towel. Do not put any lotions or oils on the body or face when using the sauna as this may block the pores and hinder perspiration. To help relieve sore and tense muscles, massage the affected areas while in the sauna. Dry brush skin while in sauna to stimulate the lymphatic system and massage sore muscles.

Pre Sauna Prep: Vasodilatation (dilation of blood vessels) improves the sweating and detoxification. However, it is not mandatory for the effectiveness of the sauna. The following are some ways to increase vasodilatation:
Exercise for 5-15 minutes immediately prior to sauna to get blood flowing
(Ex. Jogging, brisk walking, jumping rope, etc.) However, Do Not use sauna
immediately after strenuous exercise.
Or
Use a low dose Niacin—Do Not use Flush Free. You want the flush type!
